Macau Legend to Close Legend Palace Casino on Nov 12
Macau Legend Development has announced the upcoming closure of its Legend Palace casino at 12:59 pm on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. This step is part of Macau’s government-led plan to phase out satellite casinos in a coordinated effort with license holders, including SJM Resorts.
Structured Closure and Oversight
The shutdown will be executed under strict supervision from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) alongside Macau Legend, SJM Resorts, and government officials. All cash, chips and financial operations will be securely managed to ensure a smooth transition.
SJM Resorts has confirmed that patrons can redeem chips, deposits and rebates at other SJM casinos starting November 13, with all entitlements fully protected.
Employee Reallocation Plan
Legend Palace employs 296 staff. In collaboration with the Labour Affairs Bureau, SJM Holdings will redeploy affected employees to other company roles, safeguarding salaries, benefits and work conditions, minimizing disruption during the transition.
Context of Satellite Casino Closures
The Legend Palace shutdown follows a June 2025 government directive mandating the closure of all 11 remaining satellite casinos by the end of the year. Earlier closures include Galaxy Entertainment’s Grandview Casino and Casino Emperor Palace and two Melco Resorts properties.
Post-closure, four SJM satellite casinos Casa Real Casino, Casino Fortuna, Kam Pek Paradise Casino and Landmark Casino will remain open. Additionally, SJM intends to consolidate Ponte 16 and L’Arc under full ownership.
Financial and Strategic Impacts
Legend Palace has faced operational challenges amid regulatory changes, with Macau Legend reporting notable impairment losses earlier in 2025. The closure reflects the company’s strategic adaptation to Macau’s evolving gaming environment.
Shaping Macau’s Gaming Future
This closure marks a step toward the city’s shift from satellite operations to integrated resort models. Macau Legend and SJM Holdings are recalibrating strategies to balance regulatory compliance, operational efficiency and long-term sustainability, all while ensuring staff and customer interests are maintained.
