Massachusetts Sports Betting Hits $545.3M in August 2025
Massachusetts sportsbooks generated $55.8 million in revenue in August, reflecting a 10.2% hold. Player wagering reached $545.3 million for the month, marking a sharp rise from both August 2024 and July this year.
According to the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, betting handle climbed 21.9% year-on-year and 11.4% compared to July. Of the total, $537.4 million was placed online, while $7.9 million came from retail venues.
Taxable gaming revenue for the month stood at $55.8 million, with $55.1 million from online activity and $681,347 from retail books.
DraftKings maintains dominance
DraftKings remained the leading operator, recording $28.7 million in revenue from $275.9 million wagered, a hold of 10.4%.
FanDuel followed with $13.8 million in revenue from $129.3 million in bets, leaving a 10.67% hold.
Fanatics ranked third with $5 million in revenue and $49.5 million in handle (10.04% hold), while BetMGM posted $4.7 million from $46.2 million in wagers (10.17% hold). ESPN Bet rounded out the top five with $1.5 million on a $15.8 million handle (9.49% hold).
Among land-based operators, Encore Boston Harbor led with $387,454 from $3.9 million in bets (9.96% hold). Plainridge Park Casino generated $293,893 from $2.8 million (10.56% hold). MGM Springfield accepted $1.2 million in wagers but reported no revenue.
Casino revenue climbs past $105M
Statewide casino revenue reached $105 million in August, up 1.7% from the previous year. Slots contributed $73.9 million, while table games added $31.1 million.
Encore Boston Harbor again topped the sector with $65 million in revenue, followed by MGM Springfield with $24.9 million and Plainridge Park Casino at $15.1 million.
Overall, Massachusetts collected $41 million in gambling taxes for August, including $11.1 million from sports betting and $29.9 million from casino operations.
