West Ham Exit Shakes Up William Hill £500k Contest
Over 3,000 participants were knocked out of William Hill’s £500,000 free-to-play Final One Standing game after West Ham United suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford on Monday night.
The loss proved costly for many of the roughly 8,000 players still competing, reducing the active pool to 4,740. West Ham had been a popular choice among contestants expecting an easy home victory, but goals from Igor Thiago and Mathias Jensen gave Brentford the win and reshuffled the leaderboard.
Other favourites, including Chelsea and Sunderland, secured wins, leaving just under 5,000 players still in the running ahead of Gameweek 9. The upcoming fixtures are expected to narrow the field further as the competition intensifies.
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps commented: “West Ham’s defeat to Brentford was a painful blow for more than 3,000 players in our Final One Standing game. Many backed the Hammers to halt their slide, but Brentford’s performance changed the outlook entirely.
“Before this round, nearly 8,000 players remained, and now fewer than 5,000 continue to chase the £500,000 jackpot. Popular picks like Sunderland and Chelsea have so far proven to be smart choices.
“The good news is that players eliminated in this round can still participate in our other jackpots, while those remaining edge closer to being the Final One Standing.”
