Changi Airport Posts Record 70m Passengers in 2025

Singapore’s Changi Airport has closed 2025 with its strongest performance to date, recording approximately 70 million passengers over the year. The milestone confirms a full rebound from the pandemic-era downturn, with traffic volumes now exceeding pre-COVID benchmarks and setting a new annual record for the airport.

The result underlines Changi’s continued importance as a key aviation gateway, serving both regional travellers and long-haul international routes, while reinforcing its position as one of Asia’s leading global hubs.

Recovery Built on Demand and Connectivity

Passenger growth was driven by the sustained recovery of international travel and an expansion in airline capacity across Asia. The increase in available seats, combined with Singapore’s strategic role as a transit centre, supported a steady flow of origin-and-destination passengers alongside connecting traffic.

Addressing the milestone on January 5, Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow said the figures reflected the aviation sector’s resilience and the success of long-term planning. He noted that surpassing pre-pandemic levels highlighted renewed traveller confidence and validated Singapore’s strategic approach to aviation development.

Terminal 5 Anchors Future Growth

Changi’s strong performance comes as work continues on Terminal 5, a central pillar of the airport’s long-term expansion strategy. Once operational, the new terminal is expected to significantly lift annual passenger capacity, potentially doubling the airport’s current handling capability.

Authorities have confirmed the project will progress in stages, with phased tendering and development. Beyond additional space, Terminal 5 is designed to incorporate advanced automation and digital technologies aimed at improving efficiency and enhancing the passenger experience.

Broader Economic Benefits

The rebound in passenger volumes is expected to generate positive spillover effects for sectors such as hospitality, retail and tourism, which depend heavily on international visitor flows. With global travel demand continuing to strengthen, Changi Airport is positioned to maintain its growth trajectory through ongoing investment in infrastructure and technology.
