Chile Drives Global Traffic to Offshore Betting Sites
Chile has emerged as a major source of global traffic for international online betting platforms, even as its regulatory environment tightens. Rather than reducing player interest, recent restrictions appear to be redirecting users toward offshore operators using “.com” domains instead of locally registered sites.
The shift follows a Chilean Supreme Court decision ordering the blocking of betting websites operating under “.cl” domains. At the same time, public debate intensified around betting sponsorships linked to football clubs at the start of the National Championship. While the measures were intended to discourage gambling activity, user behavior suggests many players are instead moving to international platforms.
Data compiled by Apuesta Legal Chile in December 2025, drawing on SimilarWeb-style traffic analysis, indicates that Chile remains one of the most active online betting markets worldwide. The figures also position the country as a strategically important traffic source for several leading Spanish-language-facing operators.
Traffic figures highlight Chile’s role in global betting flows
According to the reported metrics, Chile ranks among the top traffic contributors for multiple major brands. Betano received 39.82% of its total global visits from Chile, making it the operator’s largest single traffic source. Novibet showed a similar pattern, with 38.59% of its traffic originating from Chile, ahead of markets such as Greece at 25.44% and Ecuador at 18.94%.
Stake recorded a smaller share at 3.11%, but this remains notable given the platform’s broadly distributed international audience, with Chile still ranking among its key origin markets.
The overall pattern suggests that Chilean players are not withdrawing from online betting but are instead changing access points when local domain options are restricted.
Cross-border shift creates regulatory and market ripple effects
The findings point to a behavioral adjustment rather than a drop in demand. When domestic access routes are limited, users appear willing to move to international sites outside local domain controls. That creates added complexity for regulators, whose measures may affect domestic operators more directly than offshore platforms.
For operators, affiliates and industry media, the Chilean situation signals that demand in tightly controlled markets can quickly migrate across borders. Chile is increasingly acting as a traffic engine for global betting brands, in some cases serving as their leading visit source.
As Chile continues to debate its long-term online betting framework, current data indicates the market is evolving rather than shrinking, with user activity shifting channels instead of disappearing.
