Philippine Casinos Embrace Smart-Table Technology

The Philippine casino sector is entering a new phase of technological evolution as smart-table systems begin to take hold across gaming floors, signalling a shift toward more data-driven, transparent and efficient casino operations.

Speaking at the G2E Asia @ the Philippines 2025 conference in Manila, Aaron Raj, Chief Technology Officer at casino equipment supplier Australasia Pty Ltd, outlined how the local market is moving beyond incremental upgrades and embracing intelligent table technology as part of a broader modernisation strategy.

Regulatory confidence accelerates adoption

A critical driver behind the rollout has been the stance taken by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). According to Raj, the regulator has shown strong confidence in smart-table systems after recognising the quality and reliability of the data they generate. Enhanced reporting accuracy has reassured PAGCOR that the technology improves oversight without adding unnecessary operational complexity.

This regulatory openness has given operators greater freedom to innovate, positioning the Philippines as a market willing to align technology deployment with transparency and accountability rather than resisting change.

Operators look to global benchmarks

Casino operators themselves are also pushing adoption, motivated by developments in more technologically advanced gaming jurisdictions. Raj noted that Philippine casinos are increasingly conscious of global standards and do not want to lag behind competitors in areas such as real-time performance tracking, player rating accuracy and enhanced game protection.

Smart tables allow operators to monitor table performance instantly, manage win-loss data more effectively and generate precise tax reporting, an increasingly important factor in maintaining strong regulatory relationships. For many local operators, the move represents a decisive step toward international best practice.

Blending AI and RFID at the table

Australasia’s smart-table solution uses a hybrid framework that combines artificial intelligence with radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. This approach allows casinos to integrate advanced automation while preserving existing table layouts, rules and player behaviour.

In a market historically dominated by slot machines, Raj stressed the importance of seamless integration. The technology is designed to enhance, rather than disrupt, the live-table experience, while automation also helps reduce intimidation for new players by reinforcing fairness and consistency.

Technology supports, not replaces, human interaction

Despite the sophistication of the systems, Raj emphasised that smart tables are not intended to remove dealers from the equation. Human interaction remains central to games such as baccarat, blackjack, roulette and sic bo. Instead, the technology works in the background, supporting dealers and operators without altering the essence of live play.

He added that casinos should not be forced to adapt their operations to technology rather, the technology must adapt to the casino environment. This flexibility has enabled innovations such as enhanced bet structures and reduced house-edge configurations without compromising gameplay.

Building trust through data

Looking ahead, Raj suggested that widespread smart-table adoption will become a defining feature of a mature Philippine casino market. By leveraging AI and RFID to ensure accuracy, integrity and operational efficiency, the technology establishes a stronger foundation of trust between operators, players and regulators.

In an industry where confidence and credibility are essential, smart tables may prove to be as much about governance and transparency as they are about innovation.
