Playtech Distances Itself from €30 Million Superbet Mistake
Playtech Rejects Responsibility in €30M Superbet Slot Glitch.
Playtech has refuted any involvement in a major slot error that left Romanian operator Superbet paying out €30 million to players.
The issue saw thousands of customers pocket unexpected winnings after a flaw in the Fire Blaze Red Wizard game led to miscalculated payouts. Around 7,500 accounts benefited from the error, which Superbet confirmed it would honor despite the financial hit.
A Playtech representative stated:
“There are no faults or gameplay problems with this or any other Playtech slot. All Playtech titles continue to run normally and any issues reported are not linked to the functionality of our games.”
Superbet’s stance:
Initially, Superbet froze the affected player accounts after the glitch became widely known on social media. The operator later reversed its position, allowing withdrawals and committing to customer trust.
In its statement, Superbet admitted that incorrect calculations had inflated winnings but stressed its decision to stand by the payouts:
“By deciding to honor these payments, we show our organizational culture is built on trust and our ability to manage unforeseen situations.”
The company confirmed the issue has since been resolved and is under review with its partners.
Contrast with Gala Bingo:
A similar case occurred in the UK earlier this year when Gala Bingo experienced a £1.6m malfunction during its Summer Nights Bingo promotion.
Nearly 2,000 players believed they had won jackpots of up to £10,000 each, but the operator cited its terms and conditions to avoid the wins.
Players were refunded the cost of their tickets and Gala issued an apology, highlighting that its rules permit winnings to be cancelled in the event of a malfunction.
Industry implications:
Superbet’s decision to pay out the erroneous €30m is almost unheard of in the sector. Historically, such disputes have only been resolved through lengthy legal battles — including one high-profile case with Paddy Power earlier this year.
