Asojuegos Launches First Sustainability Report in Colombia
Colombia’s gaming sector is entering a new phase of institutional development as Asojuegos, the national association representing 35 companies in the games-of-chance industry, prepares its first-ever sustainability report using Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards. The move signals a formal commitment to transparency, social responsibility, environmental awareness and structured accountability.
With this step, Asojuegos joins a limited group of Colombian trade bodies that publish sector-wide sustainability reports, similar to initiatives led by organizations such as Asobancaria and ANDI. The project was introduced during a guild alignment meeting attended by around 200 participants, including executives, managers, process leaders and technical specialists from member companies. The session outlined the reporting scope, GRI framework, methodology and implementation roadmap.
By applying internationally recognized reporting guidelines, the association aims to build a shared framework for measuring and communicating the industry’s economic, social and environmental impact.
Part of a longer institutional shift
The reporting initiative follows decades of structural development within Colombia’s regulated gaming sector. Since the legalization of chance-based games in 1982, the industry has expanded its governance and compliance infrastructure, including the creation of a Compliance Officers Committee promoted by Asojuegos 14 years ago.
That committee helped standardize risk controls and strengthen safeguards against money laundering and terrorist financing. Over time, operators have expanded their compliance systems and controls, contributing to more secure transaction networks across the sector.
The industry today also plays a role in financial access, operating one of the country’s largest banking correspondent networks and supporting service delivery in remote regions.
Asojuegos President Juan Carlos Restrepo said the compliance evolution reshaped the sector’s credibility and operational standards, adding that sustainability reporting represents the next stage in presenting the industry as structured and accountable.
Structured ESG benefits without disclosure risks
According to Asojuegos, the sector report will also support member companies in organizing ESG-related data more consistently, improving internal oversight and external positioning with regulators, partners and stakeholders.
The association stressed that the process does not require disclosure of ownership structures or protected corporate information. Each company retains control over its own data, while the published report will present aggregated trends, progress indicators, opportunities and best practices at sector level.
The reporting process will be supported by dedicated methodological and technical tools to ensure consistency and traceability. Through the GRI-based framework, Asojuegos aims to strengthen sector governance, highlight measurable progress and document the industry’s sustainability efforts in a standardized and transparent format.
