Flashscore Reports 34M Users on Champions League Night
Flashscore has released fresh audience insights illustrating the massive level of digital traffic generated by a decisive UEFA Champions League matchday, with close to 34 million users visiting the platform during the final round of league-format fixtures. The data underlines the continued ability of elite football to attract large, concurrent audiences across sports data platforms closely linked to the igaming ecosystem.
User activity surged during a unique schedule that featured 18 matches kicking off simultaneously, driving prolonged engagement as fans tracked several games at once. Flashscore reported usage spanning 239 countries and territories, highlighting the truly global appeal of top-tier European football and the growing appetite for real-time match data, statistics, and live updates among digital audiences.
The most-watched fixture of the evening took place at Lisbon’s Estádio da Luz, where nearly 10 million users followed Benfica’s 4–2 win over Real Madrid. Interest spiked sharply after goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin scored an extraordinary stoppage-time header in the 98th minute, an uncommon moment that triggered a surge in live views. Barcelona’s 4–1 victory against FC Copenhagen also drew strong attention, with more than eight million users monitoring the match as the Spanish side booked a direct place in the round of 16. Napoli’s 3–2 home defeat to Chelsea, which resulted in the Italian club’s elimination, attracted close to six million followers.
Player-specific engagement also rose significantly throughout the night. Nearly one million users accessed Jorginho’s profile after his penalty goal against former club Arsenal. Trubin’s player page experienced a sharp increase following his late goal, while strong interest was also recorded for Andreas Schjelderup after his display for Benfica and for Kylian Mbappé following his goals for Real Madrid, each drawing hundreds of thousands of views.
At club level, Real Madrid generated the highest volume of interactions despite their loss, as attention centred on their unexpected drop into the playoff round. Benfica ranked second in overall team engagement, with Barcelona placing third after securing qualification. The data shows that dramatic outcomes whether positive or negative can produce comparable levels of digital attention across sports platforms tied to igaming audiences.
From a regional perspective, Brazil emerged as the most active country on the platform during the matchday. Strong engagement was also recorded across Europe, Africa and Asia, with notable activity in Italy, France, Poland, the United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal and Germany. Additional high usage was reported in Nigeria, Ghana and Ivory Coast, alongside participation from markets such as Indonesia, Kazakhstan, South Korea and Uzbekistan. Flashscore also logged user activity from remote locations including Antarctica and Christmas Island.
The findings reinforce the importance of major football competitions in driving large-scale, real-time digital engagement, underlining the role of live sports data platforms within the wider igaming landscape, where immediacy, global reach and simultaneous consumption remain central to user behaviour.
Commenting on the figures, Flashscore Marketing Director Martin Matejka said the matchday went far beyond a standard round of fixtures. He highlighted the platform’s readiness for high-impact moments, noting that dramatic incidents such as a goalkeeper scoring against Real Madrid or late winners across Europe prompt instant global reactions. Matejka added that Flashscore delivered more than 700 million push notifications during the evening, with engagement recorded from users across the world, from Brazil to Antarctica.
